Snow lingers into p.m. in NE Minnesota; many areas will see Tuesday snow - Minnesota Public Radio News

tetekrefil.blogspot.com

I’ve seen a few Saturday night/Sunday a.m. snow totals of one-half-inch to one inch in the Twin Cities metro area.

A few additional reports include 1.7 inches in Mora, 2 inches in McGregor and 3 inches in Pequot Lakes. The National Weather Service will plot some snow totals here and here. This is how the NWS snow plot looked Sunday morning:

If you go to the snow maps on the NWS links, you can hover over any snow report to get the exact time and location of the snow measurement.

Northeastern Minnesota and parts of northwestern Wisconsin will see some additional snow accumulations Sunday afternoon, as the snow tapers off from west to east. Elsewhere in eastern Minnesota, plus west-central Wisconsin, there could be a stray flurry this afternoon.

You can hear updated weather information on the MPR network, and you’ll see updated weather info on the MPR News live weather blog.

Temperatures and winds

Sunday highs will be mainly in the 30s, with a few lower 40s in far southern Minnesota. The Twin Cities metro area could touch 40 briefly. Winds will shift to the northwest Sunday afternoon and they’ll be a bit gusty at times.

Monday highs will be mainly in the 30s, with a few 20s in far northern Minnesota and some 40s to the southwest:

It’ll be a bit breezy by Monday afternoon, with gusts in the 14-22 mph range in many areas:

Plotted values are in knots, with 11 knots equal to 13 mph and 20 knots equal to around 23 mph.

Monday night and Tuesday snow potential

A mix of rain and snow moves in late Monday night and it may transition to all snow at some point on Tuesday. The snow continues in many areas through the remainder of Tuesday. Models don’t agree on how soon that transition to snow happens, so they vary quite a bit on snow amounts. One forecast model gives the Twin Cities metro area about an inch of snow on Tuesday, but another model gives the metro area around 4 inches.

Here’s an early look at the odds of seeing at least two inches of snow Tuesday into Tuesday night:

Temperature trends

Twin Cities metro area highs are projected to be in the upper 30s on Tuesday, then around 40 Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by lower 40s on Thanksgiving and upper 30s on Friday.

Temps rebound a bit next Saturday, then we may see several mild days at the end of Nov. and into early Dec. The NWS Climate Prediction Center shows a tendency for above normal temperatures in Minnesota and Wisconsin from Nov. 29 through Dec. 5:

Keep in mind that our average high temp is in the 30s this time of year, so even highs in the 40s are above normal.

How warm can it get?

If you’re curious about how warm it can get in November we have the answer. The warmest November high temp in Twin Cities weather records was 77 degrees. We hit 77 on Nov. 1, 1933 and on Nov. 8 1999. Impress your friends with that weather nugget!
