SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- The weather in the Bay Area is about to go from cool and breezy to hot and breezy for Mother's Day weekend, according to ABC7 News Meteorologist Mike Nicco.

"We have a warm forecast on the way and unfortunately it also brings a heightened fire danger," said Nicco.

The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning Friday for parts of the Bay Area including the North Bay mountains, East Bay Hills and valleys, and the Diablo range. It begins at 11pm tonight and is in effect until 6am Monday.

Gusts could reach 40 to 60 miles per hour in the areas under the warning and any fires that develop could spread rather rapidly.

"Red Flag Warning means they are happening and that's likely going to be the case Saturday, Sunday and Monday."

Nicco says people need to be prepared by getting the defensible space around their house shored up, clean of any debris that could turn into fire.
