Be prepared for even hotter temperatures and elevated fire danger in your Friday forecast. The peak of our heatwave is expected this afternoon, and most areas are projected to end up a degree or two hotter than Thursday. The Excessive Heat Warning remains in effect for the valley, foothills, and a portion of Plumas County through 9pm Saturday night. A Heat Advisory will remain in effect through 9pm Sunday night in Trinity County. An Excessive Heat Watch has now also been added to areas of Siskiyou County from Sunday afternoon through Monday evening. A Red Flag warning for high fire danger will be in effect from 3pm this afternoon through 9pm tonight in Modoc County due to very dry conditions, and gusty west wind. Record breaking high temperatures are projected for quite a few cities across our region this afternoon. Our forecast is still being dominated by a ridge of high pressure to our east that has been building west over the last several days and an additional area of high pressure just off the West Coast in the Pacific. This is driving our very hot and dry conditions, and will continue to be the dominant feature in our forecast as we head into this weekend. Temperatures are starting out in the 60's to 70's in the valley and foothills this morning, while mountain areas are hovering in the 40's to 50's to start your Friday. Humidity has not recovered well overnight, and is starting out below 50 percent across the board in the valley. Humidity will dip into the 3 to 11 percent range this afternoon. Winds are starting out of the north to 10mph, but will shift to become out of the south to 10mph this afternoon. High temperatures will end up in the 108 to 113 degree range in the valley, while foothill and mountain areas top out in the 93 to 104 degree range this afternoon. The very hot and very dry conditions paired with our extremely dry fuels will result in high fire danger today, and our heat risk will be in the high to very high range this afternoon. Saturday will be almost identical to Friday, but our high temperatures are projected to drop by a degree to 3 on Saturday afternoon in most of our region. Wind will start out out of the north to 10mph in the morning, but will shift to become out of the south to 10mph in the afternoon. Gusts up to 20mph out of the south will be possible in the valley on Saturday. The heat will continue to be dangerous, and our fire danger will stay in the high range on Saturday afternoon. You're advised to continue to use cautuion do to the heat and fire danger. Low pressure will begin to develop off the coast in the Pacific on Sunday, and that will result in a temperature drop of 2 to 4 degrees compared to Saturday afternoon. We'll still be dangerously hot across our entire region on Sunday, with valley areas ending up in the 103 to 109 degree range, and 90's to low triple digit high temperatures possible in our foothill and mountain areas.
Low pressure will continue to break down the high pressure to our east on Monday, and we'll have temperatures dropping by another 5 to 10 degrees compared to this weekend. Valley areas will end up in the mid 90's to lower triple digits on Monday afternoon, while foothill and mountain areas end up in the 80's to 90's. The low pressure will continue to have more influence over our region on Tuesday into Wednesday, and out high temperatures will dip down into the average to slightly below average range for both of those days. Valley areas will end up in the upper 80's to lower 90's on Tuesday and Wednesday, while foothill and mountain areas end up in the 70's to 80's. The latest models showing another warming trend ahead towards the end of next week.
