SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- The weather in the Bay Area is about to go from cool and breezy to hot and breezy for Mother's Day weekend, according to ABC7 News Meteorologist Mike Nicco.

"We have a warm forecast on the way and unfortunately it also brings a heightened fire danger," said Nicco.

Mother's Day starts out cool to mild side under clear skies, but that quickly changes to warm, breezy and hot. In other words, microclimates will be in full swing.

Relative humidity will plummet again this afternoon as the temperatures warm under the breezy north winds, according to ABC7 News Meteorologist Lisa Argen.

The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning Friday for parts of the Bay Area including the North Bay mountains, East Bay Hills and valleys, and the Diablo range. It begins at 11 p.m. Friday and is in effect until 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Gusts could reach 50 to 60 miles per hour in the areas under the warning and any fires that develop could spread rather rapidly.

Monday the ridges strengthens for the hottest day of the week. Inland areas will be hot with gusty winds Monday and Tuesday, as the highs will reach the 90s.

Nicco says people need to be prepared by getting the defensible space around their house shored up, clean of any debris that could turn into fire.
