Westfield Mother Warns of Danger at Intersection After Son, 12, Hurt - TAPinto.net

WESTFIELD, NJ — The mother of a 12-year-old boy severely bruised when a driver hit him while he was crossing in the Fourth Ward is warning the public about a potentially dangerous intersection.

Danielle Corso’s son, Vincent, was crossing in the crosswalk at West Broad Street and South Avenue when the driver attempting to make the light clipped her son with the vehicle’s mirror, the mother said.

Corso, who posted about the incident on Facebook the following day, said her son had woken up that night swollen and sorely bruised, and she thanked another driver for stopping and attending to the 12-year-old — even though the driver who hit her son did not stop.

“One car was stopped at the light, another sped up to ‘make the light,’” Corso said in her posting. “He tried to back up quickly, but she turned the corner, her side-view mirror hitting him hard in the shoulder. He was crying and scared, but a kind woman stopped to see if he was OK.”

A police department spokesman last week said that he did not have records of the incident. Vincent’s injuries, however, did not require formal medical treatment. And on Friday, following her social media posting, Corso said, community members had reached out with support, and her son was feeling better.

“Vincent is overwhelmed by the outpouring of messages,” she told TAPinto Westfield. “I was just trying to make sure people are more aware and alert: both drivers and pedestrians. He is doing much better and just a bit bruised.”

What helped to cure the shaken 12-year-old? Burim Regjaj, owner of nearby Outta Hand Pizza, offered a pizza and dentist Paul Banks reached out with an offer of dessert from Bovella’s Pastry Shoppe.

“They wouldn’t take no for an answer and had dinner delivered for us,” Corso said. Another friend dropped off basket of his favorite treats, she added.
