NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans’ status in the 2021 NFL season has yet to be determined. One thing in early May, however, is already decided: Tim Tebow’s signing is a good sign that Tennessee can be a direct beneficiary of Urban Meyer’s incompetence.
Jacksonville will reportedly agree to terms with the 33-year old Tebow sometime in the next week.
You read that correctly. This is not a drill. One of Meyer’s first moves as a rookie NFL head coach in the Titans’ division is to bring in a quarterback who hasn’t seen the field in the regular season in eight years.
Except for the Jags, Tim Tebow will play tight end.
All of it seems like a joke, but the Titans stand to gain from this
Whether this kind of foolishness can gain the Tennessee Titans actual ground in the AFC South remains to be seen.

It is a clear indication that Meyer has precious little idea of what he’s doing. Obviously, Meyer believes Tebow would be good influence in the locker room as he seeks to change culture in Jacksonville. The two have a long, storied history together after winning two National Championships at the University of Florida in the early 2000s. Tebow won a Heisman Trophy in 2007 with Meyer as his head coach.
But, we are a long time removed from those days. Tebow’s nearly been out of the NFL for a decade and it’s a laughable idea that his presence will provide little more than a media circus.
The Titans, the Colts and even the hapless Houston Texans should look at this foolishness and smile.
Meyer and the Jaguars selected the consensus best player in last month’s NFL Draft at the most important position in sports. Trevor Lawrence can completely revitalize this franchise on Day 1, provided that same organization does not get in Lawrence’s way.
Tebow becomes the dominant story the minute Jacksonville puts pen to paper on a contract, no matter the length. Tebow is a national star times 10 in that part of Florida. If Tebow makes it to training camp this summer, he absolutely has the potential to overshadow the beginning of the Lawrence Era.
It will be a long-shot for the converted quarterback to make the roster. The fact that it is even a storyline, however, should have the Titans and rest of the AFC South licking its lips.
