Charlton County in Southeast Georgia was ranked number one this week in top 20 “Delta Danger Zones”, according to national health non-profit, Surgo Ventures, which studied CDC data.

Other counties in Action News Jax’s viewing area are showing concerning vaccination rates as the Coronavirus spreads.
Georgia Department of Health data as of July 27:
Charlton County: 17% at least one dose, 15% fully vaccinated
Camden County: 31% at least one dose, 28% fully vaccinated
Ware County: 31% at least one dose, 28% fully vaccinated
Glynn: 43% at least one dose, 40% fully vaccinated
Florida Department of Health data as of July 22:
Baker: 31%
Putnam: 38%
Clay: 43%
While Duval County is doing a little better than the aforementioned counties (with roughly half its population vaccinated against COVID-19), a local doctor says his clinics are swamped.
”We’re seeing some of the highest numbers we’ve seen even compared to the peak of COVID,” Dr. Saman Soleymani, president and owner of Avecina Medical said.
Avecina Medical has had as many as 50 patients lined up outside its doors as early as 6 in the morning, Soleymani said.
He says Avecina Medical is opening its fourth location on August 2 on Normandy Blvd. Though Soleymani says opening the fourth location isn’t in response to the surge in COVID patients, the timing couldn’t be better.
“The Delta variant of COVID is significantly more virulent and is getting patients sicker than before,” he explained.
Soleymani finds every day a handful of fully-vaccinated patients are testing positive for COVID-19. He says if you have any respiratory symptoms -- even if you’ve had COVID-19 or are fully vaccinated -- you should still get tested.
