Storm Tracker Forecast: Hotter with stronger winds & high fire danger Friday - Action News Now

tetekrefil.blogspot.com

Be prepared for hotter temperatures, bigger air quality impacts, gusty north winds and high fire danger in your Friday forecast. High pressure off the coast in the Pacific is bringing hotter temperatures, and low pressure to our north and east will drive gusty winds across our region today. A Red Flag Warning for high fire danger will be in effect from 5am Friday through 11am Saturday in the valley and foothills due to gusty north winds and very low humidity over dry fuels. Sustained winds out of the north to 20mph will be likely in the valley, and gusts up to 35mph will be possible through the day. The strongest winds will be along I-5 in the valley. Foothill areas will also have gusty northeast winds early in the day, and then gusty northwest winds Friday afternoon. Humidity is projected to dip into the 7 to 15 percent range Friday afternoon, and will not recover very well Friday night into Saturday morning. We have clear skies as far as clouds go early today, and we'll stay sunny to mostly sunny Friday. There will be more widespread impacts from smoke across northern California over the next few days, and you can expect air quality to be much more impacted than it was in the valley earlier this week. Harzardous air quality is expected in areas closest to our active fires, and unhealthy air quality will be likely at times in the valley. Temperatures are starting out in the 60's to 70's in the valley and foothills, while mountain areas dipped into the 40's to 50's overnight. High temperatures are projected to end up in the upper 90's to triple digits in the valley, and mid 80's to mid 90's in the foothills and mountains on Friday afternoon. The gusty winds, hotter temperatures, and lower humidity values over very dry fuels will result in high to extreme fire danger across northern California Friday.

Temperatures will continue to rise by a few degrees as we head into this weekend, but our winds will not be as strong as Friday. We'll also start to see a shift in the winds on Saturday, and most of our region will have the return of south winds by Sunday afternoon. Our air quality will continue to be very impacted through at least Saturday, but valley areas could see some relief as south winds pick up through the latter half of your weekend. Valley temperatures will dip into the 60's to 70's overnight, and then top out in the 99 to 105 degree range both days this weekend. Foothill areas will start out in the 60's to 70's, and end up in the 80's to upper 90's through this weekend. Mountain areas will dip into the 40's to 50's in the mornings, and then top out in the upper 80's to upper 90's Saturday and Sunday. Our weekend forecast will be dominated by high pressure off the coast in the Pacific and down to our southeast.

Another trough of low pressure will dip south into the Pacific Northwest early to mid week next week, and that will bring a welcome cooling trend back into our forecast. It will also bring the potential for periods of stronger winds back into our extended forecast at times, which is not great news for our fire danger. Temperatures are still projected to end up in the mid to high 90's in the valley on Monday afternoon, but will dip into the upper 80's to lower 90's by the middle of next week. Foothill and mountain areas will still end up in the 80's to 90's on Monday, but will dip back into the 70's to 80's for the middle of next week.
