Hot temperatures, dry conditions, elevated fire danger, and impacted air quality are all on the way in your Tuesday forecast. High pressure centered to our east will be the main influence on our forecast today, and will become even more dominant as it continues to build west later this week. This will result in very dry conditions, above average temperatures for the next few days, and dangerous heat on the way in your late week and weekend forecast. A Red Flag Warning for high fire danger has been issued for portions of Modoc and Siskiyou Counties from 2pm through 8pm Tuesday. This high fire danger is due to dry fuels, low humidity, and locally gusty winds in those areas. There is also a Heat Advisory in effect in western Siskiyou County through 11pm Tuesday night. We have clear conditions overhead this morning, and will just about exclusively see sunshine across northern California today. Temperatures are starting out in the 60's to 70's in the valley and foothills, while mountain areas have dipped into the 40's to 50's overnight. Sustained wind up to 10mph out of the south are expected, and valley areas could have gusts up to around 20mph this afternoon and evening. Southwest winds will be a little stronger in areas closest to the Nevada and Oregon borders this afternoon and evening. Humidity is projected to dip into the 11 to 21 percent range this afternoon. Valley areas will have high temperatures in the 96 to 104 degree range this afternoon, while foothill and Sierra locations end up in the mid 80's to mid 90's, and the Northern Mountains top out in the mid 90's to lower triple digits this afternoon. The hot and dry conditions paired with locally breezy conditions and dry fuels will leave us with moderate to high fire danger on Tuesday afternoon and evening.
Not much is changing in our Wednesday forecast, but our winds will likely not be as strong. We'll still be dry, and our temperatures will end up above average on Wednesday afternoon. High pressure will continue to build west later this week, and that will result in temperatures heating up across our region. Temperatures will be in the 101 to 106 degree range in the valley on Thursday afternoon, and then in the 105 to 112 degree range in the valley on Friday. Mountain and foothill areas will have high temperatures in the 90's to triple digits later this week.
Sunny skies and even hotter temperatures are on the way for this weekend. The National Weather Service out of Reno has already issued an Excessive Heat Watch for portions of Modoc, Lassen, and Plumas Counties from Saturday afternoon through Monday evening. It's just a matter of time before the National Weather Service out of Sacramento issued an Excessive Heat Watch for the valley for this weekend through early next week. These Excessive Heat Watches will more than likely be upgraded to Excessive Heat Warnings as we get closer to the weekend. Temperatures in teh 108 to 115 degree range will be possible in the valley through this weekend, while foothill and mountain areas top out in the 90's to triple digits through this weekend and early next week. This is going to be a dangerous heat event on the way to northern California, with overnight low temperatures also staying very warm. Lows in the 70's to lower 80's will be possible in the valley and foothills, while mountain areas only dip into the 50's to 60's during the overnight hours. Make sure to plan ahead for getting your outdoor activities done early in the morning, and do your best to avoid activities during the peak heat hours in the afternoons and early evenings.
