9:15AM WEDNESDAY. AUG. 11
More Danger Headed Our Way

While the main severe weather threat today will come this evening, storms are expected to move through much of the area this morning (Wednesday, Aug. 11).
Some of these storms will feature winds strong enough to down a few tree limbs and possibly some hail.

A line of thunderstorms is expected to develop northwest of the area late this afternoon and track across northern Illinois and northwest Indiana this evening. Damaging winds capable of uprooting trees will be possible with this line.
Locally large hail and a brief embedded tornado cannot be ruled out.

Very warm and humid conditions will be in place again today, with heat index values of 105 to 110 degrees. Strenuous outdoor activity should be limited and include frequent breaks to stay hydrated.
Check on those who may have a more difficult time with the heat and humidity including pets.
Storms Won’t Quit

Warm and very humid conditions will continue through Thursday, before somewhat cooler and less humid air arrives into the weekend.
Periodic thunderstorm chances continue through Friday. Severe thunderstorms are possible again very late this afternoon and evening.

EF1 Tornado Touched Down in Burlington

The National Weather Service Chicago has confirmed a preliminary total of seven tornadoes that occurred with Monday’s storms.
The preliminary ratings for these tornadoes are as follows:
- North of Esmond: EF-0
- South of Kirkland: EF-U*
- McHenry: EF-1
- South of Esmond: EF-0
- Burlington: EF-1
- Paw Paw: EF-U*

Severe Thunderstorms Expected This Afternoon, Evening

After being hit by tornadoes on Monday, Kane County could be in for another big storm late this afternoon or this evening.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 10 p.m., according to the National Weather Service Chicago.
Thunderstorms are developing across eastern Iowa and will track across the area this evening. Each storm will be capable of producing winds strong enough to uproot trees, damaging hail, brief tornadoes, and torrential downpours.
The primary thunderstorm threat will be between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m.
Dangerous heat will continue this afternoon with heat related illness probable after 30 minutes of being in direct sunlight. Additional thunderstorms may develop after midnight and produce torrential downpours with a threat for flash flooding.
At this point, it appears such renewed thunderstorms will be south of Interstate 80.
