The Independent newspaper’s chief US Correspondent Andrew Buncombe has reported from numerous trouble spots around the world in his 30-year career.
He had been arrested before – in Cuba and Pakistan, countries not known for their defence of free speech or the right to protest. But this time it was in the United States. He was covering a Black Lives Matter demonstration in Seattle earlier this month.
