Floodwater to remain a danger as Isaias nears Berks - WFMZ Allentown

ONTELAUNEE TWP., Pa. - The rain may have moved away, at least for now, but dangers created by Sunday's storm can still be found in parts of Berks County.

That was evident Monday afternoon, when a car became stuck in floodwater at Leesport Avenue and Osterling Drive in Ontelaunee Township.

A tow truck rolled in and pulled the car to dry land, allowing the driver to escape unharmed.

First responders said the incident should serve as a reminder to other motorists to steer clear of flooded roads, especially with Tropical Storm Isaias expected to dump more rain on Berks County on Tuesday.

"The effects of this storm, coupled with severe weather from over the weekend in parts of eastern Pennsylvania, are a significant concern to us and our county emergency management partners," said Randy Padfield, the director of the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency.

A flash flood watch will be in effect from 10 p.m. Monday until 12 a.m. Wednesday, meaning that people should be alert, closely monitor rivers and streams, and be prepared to move to high ground quickly, officials said.

Widespread amounts of 2 to 4 inches of rain are forecast with locally higher totals possible, according to 69 News meteorologist Mark Shanaberger.
