Rare wildflower is in danger

Re: “Rare wildflower could endanger lithium mine,” Aug. 6 news story

I do not know if The Denver Post writes its own headlines for articles it pulls from The Associated Press, but the one about rare buckwheat endangering a mine was terrible and backward. It is a mine — an encroaching human endeavor — that is endangering a rare plant that is struggling just to survive. The plant isn’t endangering anyone or anything.

Colo. leaders failed Denver

I am responding to remarks by Gov. Jared Polis and Mayor Michael Hancock concerning their opposition to having federal forces used to provide local security. They infer that they can handle the problem themselves. If that is true, then why did they fail so miserably? All one has to do is to take a look around the Capitol area to see that the governor and the mayor have failed to execute their responsibilities to provide security. Their response has been no different than their counterparts in New York, Seattle, Portland, and other cities run by Democratic leaders. What happened in Denver is unacceptable. The problem is not a lack of resources; the problem is the lack of desire.

Left-wing leaders must see this anarchy as desirous in the promotion of their ideology.

I expect the Capitol to be protected. Denver is the capital for all Colorado residents. We work there; we have businesses there. We recreate and enjoy entertainment there. We own property there, etc. We have a stake in the city and the Capitol. I am ashamed of what has happened to it.

It has happened because the left-wing leaders will accept anything that they think will embarrass the president.

Black Lives Matter means nothing to anarchists. They simply use it as a platform to exhibit their treasonous anarchy. If Democratic leaders refuse to accept their responsibilities and protect life, liberty, property and business, they should expect and even welcome the federal government to do so.

We should be conserving water

Re: “100% of Colorado in drought,” Aug. 7 news story

Have cities on the front range issued additional watering restrictions? Are we going to wait until our reservoirs are at critical levels to start conserving?

Don’t target animal breeds

Re: “Council votes to put pit bull ban repeal on ballot,” Aug. 11 news story

I am a long time Coloradan, and I would like to address the ongoing topic of banning dog-specific breeds — namely pit bulls.

I am adamantly against any type of discrimination, whether against humans or animals. It should be noted that former President Barack Obama spoke out against breed-specific discrimination.

Let us focus on the abusers; let us start taking serious, concentrated efforts to have sufficient laws in place against animal abuse. The mistreatment of animals is the reason why an animal may become angry. Dogs, including pit bulls, are not born mean.

I am a proud owner of a labrador and a pit bull mix and would never trade either for all the gold. I will always make a loving home for a pit bull breed. Sadly, the fact that this legislation is even a topic of conversation makes me ashamed of my fellow Coloradans.
