These Trees Are A Danger - Letter | Sandwich Opinion - CapeNews.net

tetekrefil.blogspot.com

On August 7 the Sandwich Enterprise featured an article about fallen pitch pines in the Heritage adventure park. Heritage CEO Anne Scott-Putney may be correct that the “...failing tree was a nonevent...”—but only in the sense that there was no sound if no one was there to hear it.

Mr. DiPersio warned Heritage, town officials and Sandwich residents about the safety of the trees during recent public hearings. Neither the public warning nor the “very strict safety protocols, beyond common industry standards” motivated Heritage to follow the tree management advice it publishes on its website, do the obvious and deal with the trees.

The only reason Heritage can state with certainty that the failed tree, which landed directly on a course obstacle, would not have landed on a random child’s head is because the zip lines are closed as the courts evaluate the fate of the amusement park (for the second time).

Speaking as an engineer and parent, I urge Heritage to admit the danger the cluster of diseased trees poses, remove them and rebuild the park obstacles on nearby, healthy hardwoods.
