A person was in custody after a shooting at a health clinic outside Minneapolis on Tuesday, the police in Buffalo, Minn., said.
As many as five people were injured in the shooting, said John Holler, a spokesman for Wright County, Minn.
The shooting happened at the Allina Health Clinic in Buffalo, a city of around 16,000 residents about 40 miles northwest of Minneapolis. The clinic provides health screenings, child vaccinations and primary care, among other services, according to its website.
A police official confirmed that one person had been arrested in connection with the shooting, but declined to release additional details. Chief Pat Budke of the Buffalo Police Department told KSTP that there were multiple victims, but added that “we don’t know of any fatalities right now.”
He said that the situation had been contained as of 11:42 a.m. local time, but that a bomb squad from Minneapolis was en route to check and clear the site.
Aerial footage of the clinic from Fox 9 in Minneapolis-St. Paul showed that the authorities had set up a wide perimeter around the clinic. At least four large windows near the main entrance were broken.
The Wright County Sheriff’s Office declined to comment, directing inquiries to the Buffalo Police Department, which confirmed the arrest but gave no additional details.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in St. Paul said its agents were on the way to the clinic on Tuesday after reports of “an active shooter situation.” The Minnesota Department of Public Safety’s Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said special agents and “crime scene personnel” were on their way to assist in the investigation of “a shooting incident involving multiple victims.”
Allina Health referred inquires about the shooting to the Wright County Sheriff’s Office.
