The resignation of the Waterford volunteer fire chief, under pressure due to statements made expressing outrage over vandalism of an iconic monument, is a very disturbing chain of events “Cohanzie fire chief resigns over controversial social media posts” (June 8).
That he voluntarily dedicated time to aid the community and put himself in harm’s way to protect people and structures gives him the right to be outraged.
The vandals were caught on video, but that is not of concern. Our freedom of speech is not only in danger but now being obliterated due to those pandering to the newest political agenda. Agree with him or not, our First Amendment gives him the right to say so.
I applaud his passion. “Those people” he spoke of were apparently undisciplined vandals. Color does not matter. We are quickly turning this country into Syria, and the Waterford rep/attorney who attacked him on media is aiding in the abolishment of free speech. Thanks for that!
