CHATHAM, NJ – 2020 has been a challenging year for all, the Chatham Borough Business District being no exception. Due to COVID-19, all community events, including the Fishawack Festival and Annual Spring Clean-Up, were halted. These cancellations caused a lack of private/public partnership funding for the Borough–assistance that is critical in supporting the White Lights initiative each year.
Chatham Borough’s White Lights in the Central Historic Business District is a tradition enjoyed by the public, creating a bright holiday season that encourages residents and consumers to shop and dine locally.
Patricia Khawand, Chatham resident and owner of Fleur de Sel Patisserie, adores everything about Chatham, including the White Lights. Gathering support from other merchants and residents alike, Khawand initiated a GoFundMe campaign to ensure that Main Street does not go dark this holiday season. She hopes to increase donations for the White Lights from others who love the Chatham community as much as she does. “Patricia’s efforts on behalf of all those who enjoy downtown’s transformation, invite shoppers, and greet students’ returning home, would surely be missed,” confirmed Janice Piccolo, Community Services Director. Launched on May 1, 2020, by Chatham resident Patricia Khawand. The Patisserie Bistro, known for its authentic French pastries, has been a sought-after addition to Chatham’s local shops. Currently operating from 8am to 3pm at 265 Main Street, consumers can enjoy good cappuccino or coffee and great deserts, along with savory offerings. Khawand openly states her blessings to be a member of the Chatham business community and characterizes her shop’s opening as community supported.
