Fire danger level in Chelan County lowered from 'very high' to 'high' - NCWLIFE News

In another sign this especially volatile fire season is winding down, Chelan County Commissioners today lowered the county’s fire danger level from very high to high.

The lower designation allows recreational campfires in designated areas, such as campgrounds.

The county also reopened Horse Lake Road to recreationists Tuesday.

The road leading to trails in the foothills has been closed since early August because of wildfire concerns.

Chelan County Fire Marshal Bob Plumb warned that without rain, conditions will remain dangerous.

“If we don’t get rain, our dry conditions will continue into fall. The public needs to remain cautious and vigilant when recreating or working in the outdoors,” Plumb said. “It’s been a tough summer. Let’s not add one more fire.”
