Storm Tracker Forecast: Chilly with gusty winds & high fire danger Tuesday - Action News Now

tetekrefil.blogspot.com

Get ready for a chilly morning and more gusty north winds driving high fire danger in your Tuesday forecast. The area of low pressure that brought unsettled weather and stronger winds to our region on Monday has now shifted to the east into Utah, but will still drive strong north winds and cool temperatures across northern California today. A Hard Freeze Warning is in effect in Trinity County through 9am Tuesday due to the potential for temperatures dipping into the teens to lower 20's. A Freeze Warning is set to stay in effect in Lassen and Plumas Counties through 11am Wednesday, and through 9am Tuesday in Siskiyou County. You can expect very cold starts to the days both Tuesday and Wednesday, expecially if you're in our higher elevations. A Red Flag Warning for high fire danger remains in effect through 7pm Tuesday evening in the valley, foothills, and limited mountain areas. Sustained winds up to around 25mph out of the north are looking likely, and gusts are projected to top out at around 35mph through the day. Humidity has not recovered very well overnight, and is expected to dip into the single digits to teens this afternoon. The dry and windy weather paired with our dry fuels is why fire danger is such a big concern. Skies are mostly clear for the start of your Tuesday, and we'll stay sunny to mostly sunny today. Temperatures are starting out in the 40's to lower 50's in the valley, 30's to 40's in the foothills, and teens to lower 30's in our mountain zones this morning. High temperatures are projected to climb into the upper 60's to lower 70's in the valley, mid 50's to mid 60's in the foothills, and lower 50's to mid 60's in our mountain zones this afternoon.

Another disturbance is projected to track into the Pacific Northwest Tuesday night through early Wednesday, and that will bring another chance for light and scattered mountain showers back into our forecast during that time. We'll dry out fairly quickly on Wednesday, and will end up with partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies through the day. Temperatures wil end up in the same range on Wednesday, but high pressure will start to build in and bring a decent warming trend late this week. The system that brings the potential for scattered showers late Tuesday through early Wednesday will be off to our east on Thursday, and could potentially drive another round of gusty north winds across northern California. Temperatures will climb back into the mid 70's in the valley on Thursday, and then upper 70's on Friday. Mountain and foothill areas will mostly top out in the 60's on Thursday, and 60's to lower 70's on Friday afternoon.

High pressure is projected to build into our region this weekend, and that will drive slightly warmer temperatures and dry weather for your Saturday. The current projection puts valley areas back into the low to mid 80's on Saturday, and then mid to upper 70's on Sunday. Foothill and mountain aresa wil mostly top out in the 60's to mid 70's through this weekend. Longer range models are showing the potential for a wet and cooler system tracking towards northern California next week, so you will probably want to keep your umbrella handy for that.
