Extreme Fire Danger Across The Plains' Grasslands - WeatherNation

tetekrefil.blogspot.com

An Extreme Fire Danger statement has been issued for several counties across western South Dakota for today, March 6, 2021.

This means that with the combination of breezy wind, warm temperatures, dry fuels on the ground and dry relative humidity in the air, fires will pop up extremely easily across the grasslands and spread rapidly.

Forecast winds are expected to strengthen and gust to their highest extent between the hours of 11 a.m. CST and 6 p.m. CST Saturday, March 6. That is also the time frame of when the dew point temperatures (a measure of moisture) will be at their lowest, contributing to the high fire danger.

Elsewhere to the north, Red Flag Warnings are in effect for parts of North Dakota and Montana which indicate these locations have a high fire danger as well.

The wide view of the fire weather alerts span up and down the High Plains because of today’s warm, gusty, and dry weather.

The contributing factors into a high fire danger include the dry soils and vegetation. The snow has melted across this region and the vegetation has not “greened up” yet, resulting in dry fuels.

In order to prevent fires from spreading rapidly, we need *your* help! Only you can prevent the next wildfire!
