Colorado road conditions: Snow leaves many streets, interstates either closed or nearly impassable - Canon City Daily Record

The massive snowstorm might have spun away from Colorado, but its impact on interstates, highways, roads and public transportation isn’t going anywhere.

The Colorado Department of Transportation’s website showed a laundry list of road closures Monday morning. Interstate 25 from just north of Fort Collins to the Wyoming state line had been closed for at least 24 hours; a stretch of I-25 south of the Denver metro to Colorado Springs reopened by 9 a.m. Monday.

Interstate 70, while mostly open through the mountains to vehicles with snow tires or chains, was shut down from essentially Denver International Airport to the Kansas state line. U.S. 6 at Loveland Pass, however, remained closed. And Interstate 76 was closed eastbound from Lochbuie to Wiggins and westbound from Sterling to Lochbuie.

Several U.S. and Colorado highways were also closed Monday morning, including portions of U.S. 287, 40 and and 24 — mostly in rural areas.

RTD services — both buses and trains — across the Denver metro were largely still shut down Monday morning, too, aside from limited A-Line service out of Denver’s Union Station. A rider alert on the RTD website for the B, G and N Lines show service is out at least through 8:20 a.m. due to poor conditions from the storm. Access-A-Ride services were also cancelled through at least 8 a.m. Monday.

Denver residents can check out where the city’s plows are by going to this website. Denver has 70 big plows and 36 smaller, residential plows, the latter of which are meant to help create a path to main streets and keep ice ruts from forming.
